- Hmmm, are you sure they all had them, some larger drives have jumpers to
- enable termination, tape drives don't usually have them, and some CD's have
- switchable termination.

- It is required, IF you want reliable operation, as you have discovered, and
- it's the last device on each end of the chain that needs termination.

- Not surprising if it's over-terminated. As noted above, some of your
- externals may not be terminated, and when powered on they provide their own
- term power. When they are not powered on they draw term power from the
- computer, dropping the bus signal level into the mud. Correct your
- termination, and all should work properly.
